Pursuant to DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2015-16 issued by Secretary Mar Roxas relative to the 2015 National Women’s Month Celebration as anchored on Republic Act No. 6949 declaring every March 08 of every year as National Women’s Day and Presidential Proclamations 224 and 227 declaring March of every year as Women’s Month and the first week of March as Women’s Week, the City Government of Catbalogan joins the nation in the celebration.
This year’s theme“Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!” pays tribute to all women leaders who passionately led and continue to advance women’s advocacies.
On March 08, 2015, a Thanksgiving Mass at 07:00 AM was sponsored at St. Bartholomew Church and a parade followed right after participated in by many agencies and organizations in purple, lavender and violet in unity with the celebration.
A program at the City Plaza was organized with members of Waray-Waray Youth Advocates (WARAYA) that officially opened the month-long celebration and guested several of the women leaders of Catbalogan City led by Sangguniang Panlungsod Comittee Chair on Women and Family City Councilor Myla Martha M. Cinco; New Life Christian Center Pastor Lovelle Lapura; Ms. Florena Dolorso from the Division of Catbalogan City, Department of Education; and other members of the City Gender and Development Counil and the Local Council of Women.
“For our ideals to pervade the government system, we shall need more allies – not just more women allies, but more empowered and enlightened women allies who will communicate these ideals through words and deeds in every assembly, council, committee, forum, legislative body and other avenue available to us.” Councilor Cinco reads from Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan’s message.
The city is set to conduct upcoming activities in partnership with many agencies and organizations for the whole month-long celebration.
