2016 DepEd-MTAP Graduate School Program in Secondary Mathematics

1. The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) announces the DepEd-MTAP Scholarship Graduate School Program in Secondary Mathematics starting summer of 2016 to March 2017.

2. The DepEd-MTAP Scholars are entitled to the following provisions:

a. schooling expenses such as tuition and miscellaneous fees and thesis writing for the 32 qualified public secondary Mathematics teachers (preferably one female and one male per region) for the Master of Science in Mathematics Education Program in consortium with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMar) to prepare them to teach the Grades 11 and 12 Mathematics of the K to 12 Basic Education Program;

b. transportation fares of the scholars from the airport to the training center; and

c. board and lodging at the MTAP Training Center located at No. 039 Oxford St., corner Columbia St., Cubao, Quezon City.

3. The regional offices are requested to assist in the selection of the 32 qualified scholars. The details for the selection are found in Enclosure No. 1.

4. The details for the qualifications/requirements, schedules of screening, process at the different levels and submission of documents to the MTAP Office are contained in Enclosure No. 2.

DEPED-MTAP SCHOLARSHIP GRADUATE SCHOOL PROGRAM IN SECONDARY MATHEMATICS MS in Mathematics Education Program April 2016 – March 2017

A. Qualifications

1. Current Public Secondary Mathematics Teachers

2. Education : BSE Mathematics, AB Mathematics with Education Units and/or Engineering Examination for Teachers (LET)

3. Civil Service Eligibility : Any of the following

  • Philippine Board Examination for Teachers (PBET)
  • Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET)

4. Experience: At least three (3) years teaching (third and/or fourth year Mathematics)

5. Age : 25-40 years old

6. Physically fit

7. Passer of the MTAP Qualifying Test

B. Screening Process and Documents to be Submitted

1. School Level On or before February 12, 2016

Nomination letter by the School Principal to be submitted to the Division Office

2. Division Level On or before February 19, 2016

Endorsement of the nominees by the Division Office to the Regional Office

3. Regional Level On for before February 26, 2016

Selection of 3 to 5 nominees
Submission to the MTAP Office of the following:

a. Personal Data Sheet (PDS)

Attachment: Certified xerox copies of the following:

Transcript of Record
Performance Rating for the last 3 years
Seminar/Training Certificates for the last 3 years

b. Letter of consent of the spouse (if applicable)

c. At least two certificates of good moral character (from the Principal, Division Math Supervisor and/or Regional Math Supervisor)

d. Medical Certificates from a Government Physician, including:

X-ray
Urinalysis
Blood Chemistry
Certification that she is not pregnant or nursing mother

e. Training Contract (Enclosure 2)

C. Qualifying Test

1. The Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines through the Regional Office shall administer the Qualifying Examination to the 3 to 5 candidates per region on March 7, 2016.

2. The examination will be administered by the Regional Secondary Math Supervisor preferably witnessed by the Chief of the CLMD of the Regional Office. Accomplished exam papers shall be sent to MTAP on or before March 15, 2016.

3. The answer sheets will be checked in the MTAP Office at Quezon City v and the 32 qualifiers will be announced by the MTAP through a formal letter addressed to the DepEd Central and Regional Offices on or before March 21, 2016.

D. What to expect in the program

1. This is a Master of Science in Mathematics Education program that runs for 10-12 months. All school expenses of the scholars will be shouldered by the MTAP.

2. It consists of 9 math subjects (27 units), three education subjects (9 units) and a 6-units thesis based on a mathematics article;

3. There will be no semestral break but a 3-week Christmas break.

4. Scholars are expected as much as possible to get a B for each subject. Also, they are expected to study and work cooperatively with three (3) other scholars.

5. Scholars are expected to help in the different day-to-day chores in the MTAP Training Center and take care of their personal needs, like medications and books they may want to bring home.

MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT
(Training Contract)

The Department of Education, herein referred to as “DepED” with principal office at the DepED Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City, herein represented by Undersecretary [NAME], Undersecretary for Programs and Projects

and

in consideration of the privilege to avail of the scholarship on official time with pay,

(Title of Training)

do hereby agree to the following obligations of the trainee:

1. Specialize in (Title of the Training)

at the (Name of Institution)

for the period of (duration of training) which will be the duration of the training;

2. Maintain at least the minimum standards for the training and that failure to do so would be sufficient ground for disqualification in the event of which he/she shall refund whatever amount has been paid by the government in favor of his/her training;

3. Conduct himself /herself in such a manner as not to bring disgrace or dishonor for himseif/herself, his/her school / agency / and the Department;

4. Submit to the Bureau of Secondary Education, Copy Furnish MTAP Office at the end of the training, a copy of his/her action plan for the Division/Region;

5. Immediately report to his/her station and assume his/her function upon the completion or termination of the training;

6. Teach grades 11 and 12 classes in the area where he/she was trained;

7. Shall serve his/her school / agency for at least three (3) years after the training;

8. Shall refund to DepED and MTAP all expenses incurred on tuition fees, stipend, salaries and other benefits for failure to comply with any of the foregoing conditions, through willful neglect, resignation from service, transfer to other government agencies, voluntary retirement or other causes within his/her control. For reason beyond the scholar’s control, the conditions do not apply, provided all documentary requirements including the doctor’s certification are submitted and are acceptable to DepED.

9. Shall live up to the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
