DepEd New Policy on Hiring, Promotion to Be out Soon

The Department of Education (DepEd) is currently in the process of changing its policy on teachers’ promotions and salary increase which will be based on teachers’ competency instead of the “traditional vacancy” in higher positions according to their proposal.

This significant change will fall into the hands of DepEd’s Human Resource Development Division of the Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD-HRDD), which is now reviewing the different aspects related to the policy change so that the issuance of updated policy about hiring and promotions of Teachers’ will be soon released.

This updated career path of the department for teachers is planned to be submitted to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

DepEd’s proposed career advancement, according to its statement, will now not be based on vacancies, but with the set of competencies that the teachers have attained. It means that the teachers will now have a career path from Teacher I to Teacher VII (Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 17) and Master Teacher I to Master Teacher IV (Salary Grade 18 to Salary Grade 22).

With these changes, teachers will no longer have to jump on administrative posts to attain a “career growth.”

The Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) involvement in these critical changes in the promotion system will significantly help teachers in their professional advancement.

BHROD-HRDD is now in the final phase of crucial consultations among education stakeholders, ensuring that everyone will be consulted to improve the proposed changes further.

Everybody hopes that the proposed policy changes will result in better process and standards in the selection, hiring, and promotion of teachers as better standards mean a better outcome.

Will everybody welcome this change? Will everybody be willing to accept this policy?
