2020 Conduct of Fire Safety Awareness Activities in Schools

Proclamation No. 360, s. 1989 and Proclamation No. 115-A, s. 1966 declared the month of March as Fire Prevention Month, respectively. These proclamations promote safety consciousness and knowledge about fire prevention in order to keep people from fire incidents.

In observance of the Fire Prevention Month, DepEd personnel and learners, DepEd Offices and Schools shall conduct activities related to fire safety and prevention as part of their activities for the month of March.

School-level activities that may be conducted are, but not limited to:

Fire Safety Awareness School-Level Activities

  1. Orientation on Fire Prevention and Fire Safety;
  2. Information dissemination on the prevention or reduction of forest fires;
  3. Fire drills;
  4. Quiz Bee, Poster, Slogan, Essay, and Photo Contests;
  5. Clean up drive;
  6. School Watching and Hazard Mapping; and
  7. Storytelling/Reading

Schools may coordinate with their local Fire Stations for the conduct of orientation and information dissemination activities. Resource persons and IEC materials on the prevention of forest fires may be requested from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Schools are also advised to revisit DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2016 (Strengthening the Fire Safety Awareness Program) particularly the Guidelines on Strengthening the Fire Safety and Awareness Program that aims to establish specific roles, responsibilities and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the fire safety and awareness program of schools.

Schools are required to submit a report on the said activity to be consolidated by the Division DRRM Coordinator.
