Have you ever wondered why photographers love traveling so much? Each trip opens doors to new experiences, faces, cultures, foods, and scenes. All you need is your camera and some adventurous spirit, and you’re good to go. But wait; there’s something else: you also need skills.

Photography schools aren’t mandatory. There are many self-taught photographers who do well. But if you really want to understand the theory behind composition and color, getting photography education from experts is a good idea. If you can combine your studies with traveling, you’d have new things to photograph while you learn. That’s why it’s best to go to a photography school away from home.

Will you make a random choice? Of course not! Your decision will depend on a few factors:

  • Who will you learn from? If you’re about to pay to study photography, you want to learn from accomplished photographers with huge experience and successful careers.
  • How much does the course cost? If it’s too expensive, is it worth it?
  • Where is this school? Are you excited just by hearing about the destination? Who wouldn’t love to photograph scenes in Bali, Southern France, or Australia?
  • When is the course scheduled, and how long does it last? Will you be able to fit it into your schedule?

Now that we got the main issues covered, we’ll suggest five great photography schools around the world. Choose the one that fits your needs and interests!

Top Five International Photography Schools

1. National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar, India

The Ph.D. program will take a year of your life, and it will involve a lot of research and studying. Maybe you can ask a college essay writing service to complete such a program. You might need to collaborate with professional writers since a Ph.D. dissertation is part of your responsibilities.

The program costs around $2300 for the first and around $2100 for the second semester. This school also offers a 4-year program for those who want to earn a BA degree in design, as well as a 2.5-year MA program.

2. Parsons School of Design, New York, USA

The school offers BFA and MFA courses in photography. You’ll learn about the theory behind the technical and aesthetic aspects of digital and analog photography.

If you’re interested in the MFA in Photography program, you’ll pay $1,625 per credit. They require you to take 12 credits per semester during your first year and nine credits per semester during your second year. That adds up to $39K for the first year and $29K for the second year. You’ll have extra expenses, so it’s a lot of money to invest in your education. However, Parsons is one of the most prestigious schools of design, so it deserves a spot on our list.

3. Tokio Zokei University, Tokio, Japan

The professors at this school have impressive backgrounds. You’ll be learning from talented photographers and designers.

The school requests a base tuition fee and fall semester fee, as well as a course fee and maintenance fee. In total, it adds up to above $6,600 at the time of matriculation, plus $6,600 for the fall semester. It’s still more affordable than Parsons.

4. Royal College of Art, London, UK

RCA offers BA, MA, MRes, MPhil, and Ph.D. programs across several disciplines of art and design. The programs are very detailed, so you’ll learn all the Photoshop tricks and gain extra experience along the way. The applications in this school are processed on the basis of first-come-first-served. So it’s important to book your spot as soon as they start accepting new applicants in March 2020.

The MA Photography program costs £19,500 in total for students from the UK and EU, and £58,000 for overseas students. It’s a lot, but you’ll be a highly skilled photographer once you complete it.

5. Photography Studies College, Melbourne, Australia

This specialized college for photography offers BA and MA programs. The full-time BA course costs $11,500 per semester. You’ll have to complete six semesters to get the degree. The school also offers short courses, which you might prefer as an international student.

Will You Invest in Your Future?

Photography can be learned through practice. You can also take online courses, read books, and learn from the pros who share their knowledge via blog posts. However, nothing beats a structured program that teaches you everything, from the basics to advanced concepts of photography. You’ll study the history of the niche, and you’ll learn how to recognize and practice different styles.

You’ll be in a community of learners and pros, so you’ll fully focus on photography during this time of your life. Plus, you’ll get to travel to a wonderful place, depending on the course you choose.

Consider this an investment in your future. Photography students can work while studying. They can sell their photos online and work for clients, so they will earn money thanks to the skills they develop.

Do your research, choose a photography school, and do the work! Good luck!
