Education chief encourages employees to apply for GSIS Scholarship Program

PASIG CITY, May 17, 2018 – Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones encourages qualified DepEd employees to take advantage of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Scholarship Program (GSP) for Academic Year (AY) 2018-2019, which is accepting applications until June 15.

The GSIS Scholarship Program is open to active and regular GSIS members who have salary grades of 24 and below, and Permanent Total Disability (PTD) pensioners below 60 years old. GSIS members who are childless married, single, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and solo parents are also eligible to apply.

Eligible applicants may nominate their children/dependents to the program who are incoming freshmen and accepted or enrolled in any four- or five-year college course or priority course identified by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The GSIS will shoulder the actual cost of tuition and miscellaneous fees not exceeding P40,000 per academic year of the 400 scholars for this AY. A monthly stipend of P3,000 for the duration of the course shall also be given to the scholars.

Moreover, a scholar who will graduate with Latin honor shall be awarded a monetary incentive of P20,000 for cum laude, P30,000 for magna cum laude, and P50,000 for summa cum laude.
