DepEd Guidelines on Conduct of Summer Classes

The Summer Classes based on the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) shall be held six (6) weeks inclusive of Saturdays between April and May per DepED Order No. 11, s. 2003. Private schools may deviate from this schedule provided that they notify their respective Regional Offices in advance.

Teachers shall administer a diagnostic test to identify the students’ development areas as a basis for the preparation of remedial lessons. The objective shall be built on students’ prior knowledge and enable them to attain satisfactory mastery of the learning competencies.

The daily sessions for the subjects that shall be offered under the Summer Program shall be based on the following time allotment:

  1. English – 3 hours
  2. Filipino – 2.5 hours
  3. Mathematics – 3 hours
  4. Science – 3.5 hours
  5. AP – 2.5 hours
  6. EP IV – 1.5 hours
  7. TLE – 2.5 hours
  8. MAPEH – 2.5 hours
  9. EP I-III – 1.0 hours

DepEd Summer Classes Required Documents

a. Endorsement from the SDS

b. Letter of Intent

c. Approved PTA Resolution requesting the conduct of summer classes

* stating the amount of fees (if honorarium shall be granted to teachers who will handle the classes)

d. Tentative list of subjects to be offered based on the report of failures

e. Schedule of classes

f. List of students who will take up summer classes

g. Written consent of the parents whose children will attend summer classes

h. List of teachers who have the intention to teach summer classes

Summer classes shall be offered to the following students ONLY: Graduating students who failed to complete the requirements in at most two (2) subject areas in order to graduate in May.

Students who failed to complete the requirements in at most two (2) subject areas in order to be classified as a regular student in the curriculum year, following the summer term.

Public school teachers who will handle summer classes shall earn service credits equivalent to the number of days rendered. If honorarium shall be given, no service credits shall be granted.

All applications for summer permits must be submitted to the office of the SDS.

  2. Good day sir! The time allotment for summer class daily in Math is 3 hours. Can I have the option to have 8 hours daily so that I can finish the summer class within 12 days only? Thanks po sir.
