Scholarships in Teacher Education Program

The Philippines Business for Education (PBEd), in partnership with the Australian Government, launched the Scholarships in Teacher Education Program to Upgrade Teacher Quality in the Philippines (STEP UP) in December 2014.

The Scholarships aim to:

  • produce 1000 high quality teachers who are ready for employment in public schools by 2019; and
  • matriculate 100 freshmen, 200 juniors, and 700 domain or career-shifters in the certificate in teaching programs between 2015 to 2019.

Most of the total grant will go to the students as part of their scholarship benefits. These include full tuition and miscellaneous fees coverage, increased monthly stipend of P 4,000.0 from P 2,000.00, and allowances for book, uniform, dormitory, thesis or practice teaching, LET review and examination, among others. Mentoring activities shall be conducted regularly to monitor and enrich the learnings of the scholars. These include one-on-one mentoring sessions, seminars, workshops, and other activities.

The Scholarships are available in eight top performing teacher education institutions: namely, Mariano Marcos State University, Philippine Normal University – Manila, University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo de Naga University, West Visayas State University, Cebu Normal University, Xavier University – Ateneo De Cagayan, and University of Southeastern Philippines-Obrero and Tagum.
