The Department of Education (DepEd) expresses great concern over the recent incidents of violence against its personnel, the latest of which is the attempt on the life of a high school principal from San Jose, Batangas.
Emily Mallari, principal of Alitagtag National High School, was driving her car morning of July 4 when unidentified suspects on a motorcycle fired shots at her in Purok 4, Barangay Pinagtongulan, Lipa City.
Based on the report of Lipa City Police, she lost control of the steering wheel and swerved to the roadside. Mallari sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately rushed by a barangay tanod to the hospital. She remains confined due to her critical condition.
The DepEd strongly reiterates its firm stand against all acts of violence and extends the same call for the safety and protection of its learners, teachers and personnel in and outside school. We enjoin everyone in the prayer for Mallari’s full and speedy recovery.
The Department is coordinating with Schools Division of Batangas Superintendent Carlito Rocafort and with the local police to thoroughly investigate the incident and immediately bring the perpetrators to justice.
