Guidelines on Contact Sports Conducted in DepEd Schools Sports Competitions

Attached herewith is a Memorandum from the Office of the Assistant Secretary Atty. Revsee A. Escobedo, Secretary-General of Palarong Pambansa entitled, Guidelines on Contact Sports Conducted in DepEd School Sports Competition.

The guidelines embodied in the said Memorandum shall remain enforced. Schools Division Superintendents and all others concerned are enjoined to observe strictly the provisions of the guidelines.

Immediate dissemination of and compliance with this Memorandum are desired.

GUIDELINES ON CONTACT SPORTS CONDUCTED IN DEPED SCHOOLS SPORTS COMPETITIONS

The Department of Education (DepEd), through the Office of the Palarong Pambansa Secretary-General, has received numerous reported and unreported cases of health and injury incidents in DepEd schools sports competitions, from the school level to the national Palarong Pambansa competitions, particularly in the contact sports.

To address the issue, all concerned are enjoined to observe the following guidelines on contact sports conducted in DepEd schools sports competitions:

a. Student-athletes competing in any contact sports shall be provided with an insurance coverage starting from the division meet;

b. The tournament manager and the officiating officials shall strictly abide by the rules set in the prevailing Palarong Pambansa technical guidelines in the different contact sports;

c. A presence of a medical team and an ambulance equipped to respond to medical emergencies is required during the competition. The “NO MEDICS, NO PLAY” rule shall be strictly adopted in all events, especially in the contact sports;

d. A report on the list of student-athletes participating in the contact sports provided with insurance coverage shall be submitted to this Office; and

e. Any sports-related injury or health incidents incurred during the competition and the course of action being undertaken shall be IMMEDIATELY reported to the regional office, copy furnished this Office.
