2015 National Teachers’ Month and World Teachers’ Day Celebrations

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 242 entitled Declaring the Period from 05 September to 05 October of Every Year as “National Teachers’ Month” signed on August 24, 2015 by His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III and to the designation of the World Teachers’ Day every 5th of October by the United Nations Evaluation and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Department of Education (DepEd) will celebrate the National Teachers’ Month (NTM) throughout the month of September starting September 5, 2015 with the month-long activities to culminate on October 5, which is the World Teachers’ Day (WTD).

The Celebration aim to:

  1. honor those who are in the teaching profession;
  2. acknowledge and give emphasis on the crucial role, loyal service and dedicated commitment of teachers in developing globally minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation;
  3. revitalize the image of and respect for teaching as a vocation by increasing public awareness on the value of teachers in the Philippine society;
  4. take the occasion as an opportunity in building the image of teaching as an attractive and fulfilling profession;
  5. generate widespread support and assistance for teachers; and
  6. express gratitude for the positive influences of teachers on Filipino learners.

All public and private elementary and secondary schools, including schools division offices (SDOs) and regional offices (ROs), are enjoined to follow the Synchronized Programs, Projects and Activities.

On October 5, school-based celebrations, including the recitation of A Prayer for Teachers, or Panalangin Para sa mga Guro shall be observed.

Moreover, October 5 is set for district, schools division, regional and national celebrations.

The Central Office shall conduct the World Teachers’ Day celebration on October 5 through a whole day program set at Araullo University Gymnasium in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

All school heads, district supervisors, schools division superintendents (SDSs), and regional directors (RDs) are enjoined to actively lead activities for the NTM and World Teachers’ Day celebrations. All expenses relative to NTM and World Teachers’ Day shall be charged to local funds, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

All schools and district offices, SDOs, regional and central offices are required to post streamers to ensure that the public is aware of the NTM and WTD celebrations. The digital files of the new streamer designs, may be downloaded from www.facebook.com/DepEd.Philippines.

In accordance with the Synchronized Programs, Projects and Activities, all SDSs and RDs are required to submit their respective plans, foremost of which is the conduct of their respective culminating activity on October 5, 2015, when officials from the DepEd CO will be assigned to attend. SDSs and RDs are also required to submit names and contact numbers of their respective division and regional coordinators for the NTM and World Teachers’ Day celebrations. The ROs shall consolidate these requirement and submit these on or before the deadline on September 4 to the Office of the Undersecretary for Partnerships and External Linkages through externalparternships@deped.gov.ph, for coordination and monitoring purposes.

Reports on the activities conducted by the schools, district offices, SDOs, and ROs shall include clear photos and a comprehensive documentation of the various activities executed. These reports, including announcements, greetings, and others shall be posted at www.facebook.com/DepEd.Philippines for two months (September and October 2015). All ROs are required to submit a consolidated report for these celebrations to the Office of the Undersecretary for Partnerships and External Linkages through externalpartnerships@deped.gov.ph not later than October 31, 2015

Compliance with the above-mentioned requirements and the Synchronized Programs, Projects and Activities for NTM and World Teachers’ Day celebrations shall be strictly monitored by the Office of the Undersecretary for Partnerships and External Linkages.
