Earth and Life Science Quarter 1 – Modules 15-17: Geologic Processes and Hazards

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master the geologic processes and hazards. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.

In this module, we will describe the geologic processes and hazards happening in the community. Geologic processes like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides lead to different hazards. A hazard refers to a potentially damaging physical event, phenomenon, or human activity that may cause the loss of life or injury, property damage, social and economic disruption, or environmental degradation. Hazards are extreme natural events with a certain degree of probability of having adverse consequences.
