Teacher Induction Program Module 1: Welcome to the Department of Education (DepEd)

Welcome to the Department of Education!

We are pleased to have you as a member of the family.

We invite you to take time to read through the Department of Education (DepEd) Teacher Induction Program (TIP) modules.

This module will help you get acquainted with the organization. It introduces you to DepEd values as it translates to the way it delivers its service in accordance to its mandate, vision, mission and goals. More importantly, it sets out DepEd’s policies and guidelines that reflect standards on teaching practices that are consistent with DepEd’s core values—Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Makakalikasan at Makabansa. This module aims to help you realize your professional development goals in your journey at DepEd.

As you go through the different sessions, consider the following as your desired learning outcomes.

Teacher Induction Program (TIP) Module 2: The Filipino Teacher

Purpose

This module brings you to a clear and realistic perception of yourself. It provides you the opportunity to take a closer look of who you are according to how you see yourself and how others see you, how you respond to situations or circumstances, and the impact of this on others.

PPST Standards

The coverage of the Module is aligned to the PPST Domain 7, Personal Growth and Professional Development. This domain focuses on teachers’ personal growth and professional development. It accentuates teachers’ proper and high personal regard for the profession by maintaining qualities that uphold the dignity of teaching such as caring attitude, respect and integrity. This Domain values personal and professional reflection and learning to improve practice. It recognizes the importance of teachers’ assuming responsibility for personal growth and professional development for lifelong learning.

Teacher Induction Program (TIP) Module 3: Responsibility and Accountability of a Filipino Teacher

Welcome to this module on the Responsibility and Accountability of a Filipino Teacher!

This module focuses on you, the Filipino teacher. The State recognizes your vital role in nation-building and development… (R.A. 7836) Lesson 1 is about your roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities and the characteristics of an effective school teacher. A number `of sections under the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers are also presented.

Lesson 2 is on the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers particularly Article II- the Teacher and the State and Article IV- The Teacher and the Profession. It also discusses Article VIII, The Teacher and the Learner.

Lesson 3 is on the Professional Development Guide for Teachers anchored on the Teacher Education Development Program (TEDP) and its component parts and on the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS).

Lesson 4 deals on Records Management. It provides you guidance on the accomplishment of records and preparation of reports as well as assessing student performance.

Self-Check Questions (SCQ) and/or Activities test your understanding of the different topics of the Module. Try to reflect on the different Self-Check Questions and Activities and find out for yourself how you can relate to the different situations.

Answer the preassessment test honestly. Don’t you worry if you find that questions are difficult to answer because this Module will guide you all the way.

You will also answer the postassessment test after reading all the lessons to gauge your full comprehension of the entire Module.

Teacher Induction Program (TIP) Module 4: Professionalism and Personal Welfare

This module is written in a very user-friendly manner. The instructions are very easy to follow and the activities are related to what you are doing as a teacher. As you start reading, bear in mind that this module becomes your teacher.

Carefully read the instructions and follow them precisely as you should. There are varied activities that you will be doing like making interviews, answering checklists, analyzing cases, and the like. Do not skip any of the pages because you might miss some of the important points. There are activities that you will be required to do in each of the lessons. Accomplish each one as you go along, lesson by lesson. Write your answers in this module. At the start, you will find a pretest which will simply determine your entry behavior or find out if you are ready to take the module. You will use a portfolio to supplement your overall progress in the module. There is no specific time frame for you to finish the whole module. However if you are focused in your work, you can do lessons 1 to 4 in only four (4) weeks. Good Luck and happy engagement!

Teacher Induction Program (TIP) Module 5: Learning Process

The primary purpose of the module is to assist the newly-hired teacher in understanding the nature of the learners across key learning stages (K to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 10 and 11 to 12). This module will also help teachers to better understand the why’s and the how’s of offering learning programs that are responsive to the needs of the learners.

This module contains the topics on the 21st Century Learners where the newly-hired teacher will identify the nature of learners in various key learning stages in the Philippine education setting and will be working on a detailed lesson plan (DLP) with parts that are aligned with DepED Order #42, s. 2016 with a specific 21st century skills that he would like his learners to develop. The teacher will also identify learning programs implemented or offered in his school or district that are responsive to the needs of the learners in different key learning stages.

In the later part of the module the teacher will do a self-reflection on how he could become an effective teacher capable in the delivery of quality basic education among the Filipino learners.

This module is self-paced where it can be worked individually or in pair by teachers during the school-based In-Service Training (INSET). However, the DLP developed by the teacher can be used in a demonstration teaching activity during the district or division INSET to be checked by peers and subject specialists in terms of the appropriateness of the content and delivery style of the teacher.

Teacher Induction Program (TIP) Module 6: The School and Community Linkages

This domain affirms the role of teachers in establishing school-community partnerships aimed at enriching the learning environment, as well as the community’s engagement in the educative process. This Domain expects teachers to identify and respond to opportunities that link teaching and learning in the classroom to the experiences, interests and aspirations of the wider school community and other key stakeholders. It concerns the importance of teachers’ understanding and fulfilling their obligations in upholding professional ethics, accountability and transparency to promote professional and harmonious relationships with learners, parents, schools and the wider community.
