6th CALABARZON Research, Statistics and Innovation Forum: Call for Research Papers

The Department of Education (DepEd) Region IV-A CALABARZON continues to scale up the culture of research in order to provide wider avenue to those who have passion in research.

In this regard, this Office supports the CALABARZON Regional Development Council – Regional Research and Innovation Committee (RDC-RRIC) in conducting the 6th CALABARZON Research, Statistics and Innovation Forum on October 15, 2020 (Thursday), with the theme, “Bridging Research and Innovation towards CALABARZON’s Sustainable and Inclusive Development”.

The forum aims to promote a strong culture of research, showcase significant findings of research studies and strengthen statistical capacities of academic institutions, government agencies and local government units (LGUs) in the region.

The RDC-RRIC calls for the submission of quality research papers (completed within 2017-2019) from the academe, research institutions (public and private), and consortia focusing on research and development (R&D) and innovation that support the development of the following sectors and specific topics:

  • industry (MSMEs);
  • social (education, health, gender and development);
  • environment and natural resources (sustainable energy, waste management, disaster management/resiliency);
  • infrastructure (traffic management, transport system); and
  • agriculture (reducing vulnerability of agriculture to climate change, increasing productivity, innovative technologies)

The call is open to all scientists and researchers (group or individual) from CALABARZON state universities and colleges, government agencies, LGUs, R&D institutions, higher education institutions and private industries doing R&D work.

Interested researchers must submit the following documents in electronic copy not later than June 5, 2020 (Friday) to 2020researchforum4a@amail.com:

  • accomplished registration form
  • one-page Abstract in pdf format, 250 to 350 words including keywords, single-spaced, font: Arial 11
  • endorsement by the head of agency/institution

Expenses relative to this activity shall be charged against local funds subject to the usual government accounting rules and regulations.

CALL FOR RESEARCH PAPERS

Goal and Scope

The CALABARZON Regional Development Council – Regional Research and Innovation Committee (RDC-RRIC) will be conducting the 6th CALABARZON Research, Statistics and Innovation Forum on October 15, 2020 (Thursday). The forum aims to promote a strong culture of research, showcase significant findings of research studies, and strengthen statistical capacities of academic institutions, government agencies, and local government units (LGUs) in the region.

In line with the theme “Bridging Research and Innovation towards CALABARZON’s Sustainable and Inclusive Development”, the RDC-RRIC calls for the submission of quality research papers from the academe, research institutions (public and private), and consortia focusing on research and development (R&D) and innovation that support the development of the following sectors and specific topics:

Participating Research Paper

The call is open to all scientists and researchers (group or individual) from CALABARZON state universities and colleges, government agencies, LGUs, R&D institutions, higher education institutions, and private industries doing R&D work.

Submission of Research Papers

Participants must submit the following documents in electronic copy not later than June 5, 2020 (Friday) by email to 2020researchforum4a@gmail.com:

  1. accomplished registration form
  2. one-page Abstract in pdf format, 250 to 350 words including keywords, single-spaced, font: Arial 11
  3. endorsement by the head of agency/institution

General Guidelines

Research papers must be completed within the past three years (2017-2019). Only unpublished research papers will be accepted. Submitted entries will be reviewed by the Paper Evaluation Committee under the RDC-RRIC. Entries that are not compliant with the required format and not relevant to the theme, sectors, and specific topics identified will not be accepted. Plagiarism and other similar acts will not be tolerated. Authors of pre-qualified papers will be notified to submit their full paper on or before July 8, 2020 (Wednesday).

Both principal author and co-author can send a submission. For co-author, a written permission from the principal author should be provided. The principal author must acknowledge his/her co-author, if there is any. A maximum of two entries per researcher can be submitted, whether principal or co-author.

Content

  • Title
  • Author – full name of author/s or implementing institution;
  • Abstract – one-page, 250-300 words including keywords, single space covering the highlight of results of the research;
  • Introduction – an overview of the research, the significance and the statement of the problem;
  • Objectives – statement of the specific purpose to address the problem areas which the research intends to solve;
  • Review of Literature – relevant literature and other technical works related to the research;
  • Scientific Basis/Framework – state-of-the-art technology or information from which the project takes off;
  • Materials and Methods – procedures involved, the materials used, sampling procedures, statistical analysis, methodology, and others including scope and limitation, time (seasonality), and place of study;
  • Output – deliverables, product, and services that the study will produce over a period of time
  • Results and Discussion – data gathered, analysis, and interpretation of results supported by tables, graphs, pictures, maps, etc. including the comparison of targeted actual research and development output;
  • Summary and Conclusion – Brief result and generalization derived from the research based on proof shown;
  • Recommendations
    • Findings/results that need further verification
    • A solution to a specific problem that can be derived from the result
  • Literature Cited – references listed alphabetically by authors. Each source shall follow the following format: author/s, year, title, edition (if source is a book), place of publication, publisher (or name of journal, if article), page number (if it is an article);
  • Acknowledgment – indicate who contributed to the completion of the research

Best Paper Selection

One winner per sector/category for the Best R&D Paper will be selected based on the combined score of the full paper evaluation and oral presentation during the Forum. The paper with the highest score from among the best paper in each sector will be selected as the Overall Best R&D Paper.

Criteria for Judging:

Paper – 70%

  1. Potential impact of research to socio-economic development – 25%
  2. Potential for commercialization and wider adoptability – 20%
  3. Contribution to advancement in Science, Technology and Innovation -15%
  4. Scientific soundness/technical rigor – 10%

Oral Presentation – 30% (during the forum)

  1. Mastery of content – 8%
  2. Effectiveness of presentation skills/delivery – 7%
  3. Organization of presentation – 5%
  4. Response in Q&A – 10%

Note: Full papers must garner at least a score of 45 points out of 70 points to qualify for oral presentation during the Forum.

Headings and textual discussions must be concise and informative. The graphs and figures must be of high resolution and have informative captions. The font must be readable within one meter distance.
Author’s Physical PresenceThe author or presenter must be present during the specified viewing time of the evaluators. The viewing time will be announced at the start of the forum.
Best Poster SelectionThree winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be selected based on the following criteria for judging to be evaluated during the forum.

Content – 50%

1. Completeness/sufficiency of data – 5%
2. Conciseness and understandability – 5%
3. Breakthrough/Significant findings – 20%
4. Impact of result to the development objectives of the region/province – 20%

Design – 50%

1. Effectiveness of visuals – 20%
2. Aesthetic appeal of visuals – 10%
3. Clarity of visuals – 10%
4. Coherence of visual elements – 10%
