2019 Deped Research O’Clock Schedule, Themes and Indicative Topics

Attached is the DepEd Memorandum No. 018, s. 2019 – 2019 Research O’clock from DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, dated February 18, 2019, contents of which are self-explanatory for the information of all concerned.

To strengthen the culture of research, the above captioned activity will be held from February to November 2019 at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan.

All DepEd personnel, research practitioners, research enthusiasts, policy makers, program managers, and individuals with interest in specific education issue or topic from different sectors are invited to attend the forums.

2019 DEPED RESEARCH O’CLOCK

Being mandated by Republic Act No. 9155 otherwise known as the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001, the Department of Education (DepEd) had already undertaken education researches that served as the bases for necessary reforms and development contained in (a) DepEd Order (DO) No. 13, s. 2015—The Policy Development Process; (b) DO 39, s. 2016—Adoption of Basic Education Research Agenda; and (c) DO 16, s. 2017—The Research Management Guidelines. These policy interventions are expected to have guided all governance levels to strengthen the internal processes and systems towards evidence-based decision-making.

To strengthen the culture of research further and to support policy interventions, DepEd will conduct the 2019 Research O’clock from February to November 2019 at the Bulwagan ng Karungan. Please see the enclosure for the schedule, themes, and indicative topics.

Deped Research O’Clock Objectives:

The forum primarily sought to promote the uses of research results and evidence in decision-making, program designing and implementation, plan formulation, and adjustment. Specifically it aims to:

a. provide a venue for DepEd offices to learn from researches done by different sectors and organizations; and

b. promote open discussions and continuous learning experience for education leaders, researchers, policy makers, and educators in the basic education sector.

For this year’s research forums, selected researches from the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) will be presented, together with other studies conducted by partner organizations.

All DepEd personnel, research practitioners, research enthusiasts, policy makers, program managers, and individuals with interest in specific education issue or topic from different sectors are invited to attend the forums.

b. Time

There will be two sessions:

i. 9:00-11:00 a.m. (morning session), and

ii. 1:30-3:30 p.m. (afternoon session)

c. Venue

Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City

d. Registration

Due to limited seats, interested attendees are required to preregister at http://bit.ly/ResearchOclock one-week prior the scheduled forums.

e. Research Presentation

Presentors from DepEd, other government agencies, development partners, and the academe will be invited. Selected researches aligned with the theme will be presented per session/topic.

f. Participation

DepEd personnel’s attendance in the forums must be approved by their immediate supervisor.

Participation of teaching personnel shall be subject to the no-disruption-of-classes policy stipulated in DO 9, s. 2005 entitled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith. A Certificate of Participation will be given after the forum.

Transportation and other incidental expenses incurred shall be charged to local funds, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

g. Communications

Two weeks prior to the forums, an invitation brochure will be sent to the concerned offices for their dissemination. Also, announcements relative to the forums will be posted on the DepEd’s official social media account.

This is a bimonthly research forum that aims to promote the use of research results / evidences in decision – making, program designing and implementation, plan formulation and adjustment.

Note:

DepEd personnel’s attendance in the forum must be approved by their immediate supervisor and participation of teaching personnel shall be subject to the no-disruption-of-classes policy stipulated in DO 9, s. 2005: Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.
