Attached herewith is Advisory signed by Teresita G. Inciong, Ed.D., D.P.M., Vice-Chairperson & Executive Director of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Council on the Giving of Special Awards During Moving Up.
Giving of Special Awards During Moving Up Highly Discouraged
In keeping with the definition of the ECCD Curriculum in Sec. 4c. and Sec. 5a of R.A. 10410, we would like to inform everyone that giving of any kind of awards during the Moving Up is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED by the ECCD Council. The Council believes that every child is unique, and that assessment in early childhood should seek to understand the child’s development holistically. The ECCD Council highly recommends that parent-teacher communication take place daily to ensure that the child’s developmental progress is appreciated and supported by the family as it occurs.
Moreover, the ECCD Checklist should not, in any way, be used as basis in giving special awards to children. The ECCD Checklist is not used to rank children, but rather as a tool to track the development of individual children.
Giving of Certificates of Completion or Attendance is enough during Moving Up. As an alternative, if there is a need to recognize parents for their valuable contributions and support during the year, a Certificate of Recognition may be given to the parents.
