ENGLISH

1. LITERATURE: 35%

1.1 Identify the literary pieces and figures that left significant marks in the library of nations and peoples
1.2 Draw out universal and/or particular values from world-renowned literary selections
1.3 Interpret the way of life, culture and aspirations of peoples from library pieces that they produced
1.4 Formulate logical conclusions about life from select literary pieces
1.5 Apply ideas derived from famous literary pieces to current issues of universal concern

2. LINGUISTICS: 25%

2.1 Manifest familiarity with the theories of language learning and their effect on language teaching
2.2 Apply the knowledge of linguistic theories to the teaching of grammar, composition, reading, and literature
2.3 Apply techniques in teaching listening and oral interaction
2.4 Apply the knowledge of the structure of English language to the teaching of communication arts and literature
2.5 Evaluate the applicability of English instruction approaches/methods/techniques

3. READING: 20%

3.1 Identify the reading strengths and weakness of students
3.2 Illustrate important reading diagnosis techniques
3.3 Determine the appropriateness of teaching and testing material to be used in reading remediation
3.4 Differentiate the various levels of reading
3.5 Interpret the central ideas and themes of reading selections

4. INTRODUCTION TO MASS COMMUNICATION: 10%

4.1 Illustrate the interrelationship among communication media, the individual, and society
4.2 Identify the different forms of mass communication
4.3 Do simple editing, objective analysis and critical appraisal of a print excerpt
4.4 Express relevant and sound opinions about broadcast materials
4.5 Evaluate current media trends

5. PREPARATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL/EVALUATE MATERIALS FOR ENGLISH: 10%

5.1 Identify/apply principles in the different types of instructional material in English
5.2 Apply sound principles of teaching in the preparation of teaching aids/ devices
5.3 Manifest familiarity with the use of technology in the preparation of audio-visual materials in English
5.4 Apply principles of test construction for measuring English competencies
5.5 Apply validation principles in the preparation of instructional materials
